    I’m Back…… November 30th, 2007

From the sick child vacation I didn’t plan on taking. It seems my computer is infected with spyware, and I must run my anti-spyware programs and popup blocker to take care of it before I can continue to post. So I’m off to do a little computer maintenance.

Quick Update on My Little Man From Riley North November 26th, 2007

The procedure went fine.  I was a nervous wreck.  It scares me to death when they put a child under completely, and I got so nervous I had to get Benedryl for hives!  Everyone at the hospital was so sweet and understanding.  One of the receptionists even ran to Meijer to get me some Benedryl.

We stayed with him until it was time for him to go to sleep, then went to the waiting room.  They took our cell phone numbers to make it easier to get hold of us if they needed us.   Like I was going anywhere.  I stayed put, trust me!  He had a little teddy bear waiting on his bed, and they even gave him another one for Maddie, the puppy so he could take home a souveneer to her.

The scope showed a couple of red places, but nothing other than that.  They took some biopsies and inserted the ph probe.  It stays in 24 hours, so we go back in the morning.  Each time he has pain, heartburn, acid reflux, eats, drinks, or changed his sitting or lying position, we record it in a diary and push the corresponding buttin on the probe’s box.

I didn’t sleep at all last night, and even though I’m very tired right now, it’s not looking good for tonight either.  Little Man looks so worn out and the tape they used to keep the probe in place under his nose and down his cheek is giving him a rash.

We have full color pictures taken during the upper and lower scopes and of course Little Man things those are just awesome.  We head home tomorrow after the probe is out.  The room has free wireless so my darlin’ Diva could go ahead and start her research paper and not fall too far behind while she’s beeh here supporting me and her brother.

The ex was here for the procedure, then left.  I was a very good girl, and told him he could come visit him at the hotel if he wanted to when he got off work-but only because I knew he wouldn’t.  He doesn’t call them just to talk, either, only when he has to.  He probably won’t be back tomorrow, either, for the scope removal.

I’m going to try to rest now, so I can drag myself out of bed in time to have him back at 8 a.m. to get the darn thing out.

Thanks for all th prayers, and keep praying the biopsies come back fine.  So far it looks like acid reflux and irritible bowel syndrome.

    Bright Blessings!

A Health Journal With A New Twist November 11th, 2007

Since my son has been sick, I’ve been overloaded with doctors, doctors advice, prescriptions, tests, technicians, and nurses.  And that doesn’t even take into consideration dealings with the school and insurance companies.

My grandmother’s best friend’s husband(did you follow that?) died because he had a faulty defibrillator implanted in him.  She is now in litigation and negotiations with the company that made it and the doctors that treated him because she made many, many trips to his specialist hours away because of problems with the machine.  She kept a journal of each and every doctor, emergency room , hospital, and testing visit writing down word for work what each person told her and what treatment was given.  She wrote a log of nurses checking on him and what they found and added to his chart.  She thought this way she could keep it all straight.  Little did she know that because of a faulty defibrillator, her husband would die, and these journals would be admitted as evidence in the suit against both the manufacturers and the doctor/hospital.

Now, hopefully my son’s problem won’t get to any where near that point, but after our first visit to the specialist and a few miscommunications with him and his nurses, I’ve decided to do the same thing.  I’m also hoping it can help me keep all the medications and tests straight as well as give me something busy to do while I’m at the hospital worrying about him.

Keep him in your prayers, and I’ll let you know how this journaling works out for us.

Update on Where I’ve Been November 4th, 2007

I hope to be back to blogging regularly now, but there are no guarantees.  The move is over, but my son has been very sick.  He’s having stomach pain and the doctors haven’t been able to find the cause yet.  We’ve been dealing now with a doctor from Riley Hospital for Children, so hopefully we’ll get some answers soon.  He has an appointment for a test on Wednesday to look at his intestines to see if they are twisted or kinked.  The only thing I’m unhappy with is that they won’t do anything for his pain.  They put him on medicine to control IBS, hoping that would work and there would be no need for further tests, but so far it hasn’t.  The doctor basically said he didn’t want to be responsible if in 20 years my son was in drug rehab because he allowed him to have pain medicine.  I hate to see him hurting, and don’t see any reason with modern medicine as it is, they can’t do something more for him.  He’s only ten and has lost over 4 pounds in a month.

Anyway, that’s the situation in a nutshell.  So hopefully I’ll be back to more regular posting for a while since I’m not dealing with moving and a sick child, just the sick child.
